Come As You Are: Dive In

So, you have made it this far.

You’ve promised to be who you are through this study.

You’ve asked God to expose you to the areas in your life that need His fix.

It’s time to dive into the most important part: scripture.

It’s time to knock on my apartment door, come in, and get up-close and personal with my walls.

Now, I know that you can’t really come over.

So, I’ve found a way to bring my walls to you!

I have compiled all of the categorized notecards that I have covering my walls (believe me, there are a lot) into several google doc folders.

I have made these folders viewable to all of you.

Each folder is labeled with the category name.

When you open the folder you will see some images of different scriptures, tasks, encouraging words, and questions pertaining to that category.

Each folder acts as a different section on my walls.

As you open each folder, image yourself walking around my apartment and focusing in on that space in front of you.

Yesterday, through prayer and a set of questions, you were to pick a few focus areas (categories) from your life.

Go to these sections first.

Write things down.

Take notes.

Do the activities.

Answer the questions.

After you spend some time “in front” of those sections.

Take some time to view others as well. (Note: The “Who is God?” folder is for another exercise. There is nothing in it at the moment)

Visit the area you view as your strength.

Visit an area that is new to you.

And, take notes.

Basically, you are taking what you need to find fulfillment, answers, peace, and encouragement in the areas you need it, but instead of finding it from things around you, you are finding it through God.

You are allowing yourself to focus in on His word and listen for His response.

It is a time between you & God.

Once you are done taking what you need.

Answer today's questions (found below)! Add them to your notes!

Here is the active link to the google document ->

I am trying something new by using these folders as a way to interact so PLEASE bear with me & please reach out if you have ANY problem with the link, folders or exercise itself!

Here is a little prayer for you to begin your time with:

Dear God,

Today I just ask you to focus me. Focus me on the areas I need to focus on during this time. Push me to see things that you have placed in front of me. Allow me to be open to what is on these walls. Help me to find fulfillment, answers, peace and encouragement. When my heart becomes distracted, redirect me. When answering questions, allow me to think deep and answer with truth. As I “walk” around this apartment, lead me to the sections you want me to spend time in. I might have missed an area of focus. Just as you exposed me yesterday, do the same today, but this time expose me to Your truth! You are where my help comes from, not the world, not people, not the internet, only You. I invite you into this exercise! Let this time be between only You and I.

Amen

Now, dive into the word of God!

Today's Questions:

Note: Complete your questions found in each section before starting these.

  1. Which areas did you choose to focus in on today?

  2. Which area did you spend the most time in?

  3. Which area were you exposed to that you were not exposed to yesterday? Were you surprised by this? Did you find what you didn’t think you needed?

  4. Were you surprised by how different scriptures spoke to you?

  5. Were there any scriptures that you have seen before, but saw it in a different way today? In other words, did a familiar scripture speak to you in a way it hasn’t before?

  6. Answer this question for all of your focus categories. Did you find what you needed? If so, what was it? Which verse and/or verses provided answers? Did any verse/activity spark new thoughts/opinions/feelings in this area?

  7. Did any particular verses raise any questions? If so, take the time to digest them. Look up any unfamiliar words or phrases. Try to find a study translation to view as well.

  8. Did you find yourself being stubborn? Were you hesitant? Did you get distracted? If so, why?

  9. What section inspired you? Where did you see/feel the most of God’s love?

  10. Today you were exposed to God’s scripture. Summarize/journal your feelings about this exercise. How did you feel? How did it shape your opinions, attitude, and motivation? What did you connect with? What did you doubt? Why do you think God put specific verses in your life?

  11. Do you feel as though you came as you were during this exercise? Did you find what you needed? Did you let God speak to you during this? Were you open to hearing His word?

  12. Did you ever find yourself stopping to pray? What for?

  13. Is there one particular verse that stood out to you from this exercise? Can you apply it to your everyday life?

Today’s Challenge:

Pick a verse that stood out to you today! I encourage you to write that verse down on an index card, piece of paper, sticky note- whatever is easiest, and tape it somewhere where you look frequently... a mirror... a cabinet...in your car... doesn't matter where, just find a focal point for your focus verse. Then spend time today praying and asking God to fill you up with that verse this week & to expose truths through that verse. As you go about your day today, look for areas where He has begun working in you through your life and your verse! Share this verse with me! Whether its through an Instagram post or Facebook Status, just use #MyFocusVerse and tag Lines Of Faith!
