The Yes's, No's, and Wait's

A few weeks ago I wanted to make some cookies for my bible study.
I needed some more chocolate chips, so I decided to quickly run to the store.
My card was with Logan in his wallet because I needed a place to put it the last time we went to the store, but we had some extra cash, so I grabbed a twenty, put it in my wallet, and headed out the door.
If you are familiar with a military town, then you know how the traffic is at 5:00 in the evening. If not, then let’s just say it wasn’t considered quick anymore.
But, by the time I got into the parking of Walmart, I got out of the car, opened my wallet and guess what?
The twenty wasn’t there.
I frantically checked my car to make sure it didn’t fall out there.
I drove home (in the crazy traffic) to check if I maybe by some chance it fell out on the floor? Nope. It wasn’t there either.
I tore my apartment apart.
Nothing.
The twenty was gone.
In all honesty though, I wasn’t frustrated because I lost the twenty, I was frustrated because I couldn’t have the cookies.
I had been craving them ALL day and walking into Walmart was the closest I got to getting them.
I decided to shake it off, though, and just find something else to make for bible study.
The following week, I wanted to again try to make chocolate chip cookies.
I had all of the stuff, so it worked out perfectly.
I put them in the oven and decided to finish up some of my cleaning before everyone came over.
About twenty minutes later, I smelt burnt chocolate.
I never set a timer.
At this point, I gave up on chocolate chip cookies.
I guess I wasn’t meant to have them anytime soon, and I had to be okay with that.
Now, the point of this story wasn’t to explain that I didn’t get cookies.
My point was to explain that sometimes God works this way too.
Sometimes He says no.
And even if we try to ask or do it again, He still says no, and we have to be okay with that.
God has three answers: Yes, No, and Wait.
Of course, hearing yes is what we want.
We want God to be all in and all for what we asked.
But shouldn’t it be the other way around?
Shouldn’t we want to be all in and all for what God wants for our lives?
And, if this is the case, why are no’s cause us to become so distraught?
We want what God wants for our life, right?
Wrong. We want only what God has for us when it’s a yes.
We want the yes’s, not the no’s or the wait.
We hate the waiting game.
But, that is where true faith steps in.
If we want to live according to God’s will and want to follow His direction, then we have to be okay with the no’s.
And, we have to be willing to wait patiently if the answer He gives us is wait.
Waiting is hard, it can be very frustrating.
But I think that God wouldn’t make us wait if it wasn’t something worth waiting for.
His plan is always going to be right, and good.
It might not always be easy, but what He has in store is always going to be what is best.
His plan should always be worth the wait.
We should shrug off the no’s and understand that He’s probably got a reason for those too.
Everything that is God’s is perfect.
Therefore, His plan is perfection.
Our lives are not perfect due to the free will we give into.
But, when we choose to accept God’s direction, we start moving towards the perfection.
It doesn’t make us perfect, but it opens our eyes to the perfection that comes with trusting and relying solely on God.
So, will we get yes’s? Yes.
Will we get no’s? Absolutely.
And, will we have to wait? More than we would like to.
But, that is all a part of faith.
Acceptance, patience and willingness to move forward with a graceful attitude.
Moving forward regardless of the answers God has given to us to do HIS work in this world.
So maybe you haven’t exactly gotten the answer you wanted from God, but instead of letting it affect you, let it reflect on you in a way that shows you are accepting of the King and His decisions and that you will move forward anyway!
Think about what you have recently asked God for…
Have you received an answer yet?
If so, were you graciously accepting of it? Or did you let it affect you negatively.
If you haven’t gotten an answer, pray about how you approach God’s answer to you.
Pray that your heart is open and ready to reflect a positive attitude.
When we start reflecting a positive attitude about how God answers us, we will see just how God is trying to direct us!
