WRITER'S BLOCK: A CALL TO ACTION

Writing: my disappearance from the world, my safe haven, my “go-to” place. Writing: something that captures my full attention, with one grasp I’m hooked. Writing: my tunnel with no outlet, I can never escape. Writing: it takes my mind places that I can only explain through words. Writing is my calling. Writing is my companion.

If you know me, you know I cannot express my thoughts verbally. I freeze up, stop in the moment. The thoughts are there, though, they just can’t get past my tongue. They stay hidden inside where I have placed them, longing to be rescued and set free. This is why writing is so special to me because it is my God-given outlet where I can express what lies within my heart, freely. It is where I can openly share things I want those surrounding me to hear. My thoughts don’t go “unheard” rather, they are seen, noticed, observed, penetrated into the minds of those who choose to read it. People are paying attention, and if I can hold a person’s attention through writing, then I am going to use it.

But, I am not wanting to use it to put the spot light on me, no. I am not the girl striving to be center stage. Hello! If you remember correctly, I hate speaking. Writer here, remember? I was the girl in school that loved hearing “final draft due next week” over “speeches next class”. No, I want to put the spotlight on the One who has blessed me with my outlet, my writing. I want to shine a light on our One True King, on an element that so many people have chosen to black out of their lives; their Father and their faith.

Believe me though, I have been there. I hit a point in my life where I moved him back stage, and put myself at the center of it. All lights were on me, except I couldn’t be the director of my own production. I could waltz my way from stage left to stage right, and I had no problem using the props, but what I lacked was perspective. I couldn’t see what the audience perceived from their seats. I could only look out into a big room and see nothing but darkness because, I was blinded, ironically, blinded by my own “spotlight”. When you are performing, you don’t see what surrounds you, you only focus on yourself, and this is what we tend to do with our faith in our lives. We stand there, convinced that we own that center stage, but the spotlight goes out and the curtain draws shut. YOUR show is over, and God never got a chance to perform in it. What happens next?

What happens next? Or, what comes next? A common question that tends to sneak up on us writers, usually during a point in our writing process where we freeze up. We like to call this…. Writer’s block. A point where we are unable to think of what to write in which we cannot proceed in our works. It’s funny actually, because it was through my own case of writer’s block that I came up with the idea behind Writer’s Block series. Writer’s block inspired me to take my writing further. But, it was not that type of Writer’s block, actually. My case of Writer’s block involved blocking out the Creator in my life, and shining a spotlight on myself instead. One moment, I was typing away aimlessly on my computer, setting up a structure and plan for myself then, before I know it, the dreaded cursor appears and I cannot seem to make it go away. The thoughts were not coming to me anymore, my life suddenly felt blank. I hit a wall in my brain, in my life, and I realized the only way around it was to let Christ back in again.

Writer’s Block: encouraging others to let the Writer into their lives. This study’s purpose is to bring a light on the fact that our lives need Christ. We need His plan in order to really succeed in this world. I have learned that it is impossible to walk through life without the guidance of our father. I believe we have hit a point in our world where things are only going to get darker. Fewer people are going to shine their God-given light, causing less of God’s plan to be completed. Our world needs more light, and what better way to give off light than by living out the purpose and plan HE provides us with. As humans we are frantically trying to make a way for ourselves. We find an intriguing path and immediately take one step onto it without questioning if it is the one God has provided us with. The path winds and winds but it only leads us to become lost. The only way we are going to make it along the path is with the help of Jesus Christ. We are doers with high standards in a world that, sadly, is full of letdowns. So why do we walk on a worldly path that leads to nothing but setbacks, when Christ’s way will lead us to triumph and blessings? Writer’s Block: encouraging others to walk down HIS path, rather than their own.

Proverbs 16:9 says “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” Do we have an ideal plan for our lives? Yes. Are we allowed to dream? Yes. But where we go wrong is not working God’s will into our dreams and plans. So, yes, we may have our own strategy for our lives, but the Lord determines the outcome. So plan, dream, visualize your future, but don’t begin the process without the Lord. Let Him establish the steps. Let Him work the plan the righteous way rather than allowing the world to. Let Him bring you to your calling, and use you towards the works of His Kingdom. I challenge you to step out in Faith and choose to overcome your Writer’s block. Knock down your wall! Allow God to use you in ways you could never imagine. HE has a plan. Use it, accept it, trust it, follow it. Let Him write!

Tomorrow we will dive into our first day of our first study section: Life’s Cursors, but before we begin we have to make a choice, a choice to let God write in your life and work within you over the next few weeks.

Together, let’s make this choice.

Let’s choose to let Him write within us, around us, and through us.

Choose to faithfully fill up on this month’s study and choose to let Him write.

If you are making this choice today, share it! Type up a status, leave us a comment on our Facebook page, this blog post, on Instagram, Tweet us, or even through email saying “I am ready to let Him write.” Using the #tags #WritersBlockStudy & #LetHimWrite

Now, let’s let Him write!
