Happy Tuesday, everyone!
Today is our first official day of our section one in Writer's Block.
Our focus today: worldly idols.
1 John 2:15-17 says: "Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever."
An idol is any person, object, or activity that you give a higher priority in your life than your relationship with God. Basically anything that you are putting first before you are putting Christ. An idol can be a hobby, a relationship, family, electronics, a Netflix show, school, or our jobs. An idol can be drugs, alcohol, sex, or any sin/sinful behavior. Idols can even be the work you do for the Lord that consumes your energy and time. So even if you are doing work for the Lord, are you also making time WITH Him? That is the key, making time for the Lord and making that your number one priority. It can become so easy to idolize something or someone in our lives. We become so wrapped up in the worldly things and what we think the world has to offer us that we begin to just flood our lives with idols, but yet we close off time for the Lord. We make more time in our everyday lives to enjoy the world and less time for Him. And it is when we start to idolize, or “worship” something else above God, that we begin to block out our Creator. This is why Worldly Idols is one of life’s cursors that just gets in the way! It is very easy to let idols get in the way of our relationship with God. In fact, they drive such a wedge between you in the Lord, and the more you wrap yourself around your idols, the further you are from God. God says He is a jealous God and wants our full attention, yet we put it elsewhere. We put it in our social lives, social media, shopping, exercising, and even schedules. But, there comes a time when you have to eliminate the things that are in the way of you and God. And that is what Writer’s Block is here to do. It is here to help you recognize where and what is causing you to block out the Writer. What is getting your FULL attention? Is it God or is it something or someone in your life? Are Idols one of your cursors? Where can you make changes? Colossians 3:2 says set your mind on things that are above, not on things that are of the earth. Today, set your mind on God. Let Him focus you, and speak to you about where your full attention lies. Journal responses to these questions and about how He focuses and speaks to you today, on today's journaling page.
Let's remove our love of the things of this world, and direct it towards God!
