I couldn’t sleep last night because the heaviness of discouragement took over my thoughts.
Restlessness set in. Would I ever be enough? Am I going to make it?
You see, earlier in the day I received a rejection email for a job I really wanted.
I had my mind set on this job, so this news hit me hard.
We are transitioning into a new phase of life and the job search hasn’t been the easiest, causing doubt and worry to sink in.
Before falling asleep, I read a post from Danny Gokey that mentioned Daniel 10. This is what I decided to start my day with.
Once again, His word continues to speak volumes in the highs and lows of my life.
This chapter talks about Daniel’s vision of the messenger. Here’s a little back story: earlier Daniel had been praying to God, but not hearing a response. This messenger was God’s response to Daniel.
His words to Daniel were “Don’t be afraid. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come to answer your prayer.” He then goes on to explain that his way has been blocked, but reminds Daniel to be encouraged and to be strong.
The story hit home because I feel like I have been praying for God to provide a way for a job and other things through this season and when I don’t necessarily hear an answer or get the answer I expected, it is easy to get discouraged.
Answers to our prayers may be blocked or hindered by something bigger than we understand. There may be some obstacle in the way or some spiritual battle that is still in progress. His answers are not always going to be yes and they aren’t always going to be quick. They may be a no. Or maybe a wait, this is why we must pray fervently.
Through Daniel’s experience we are able to find encouragement through the discouragement of unanswered prayers because we see just how God continuously shows up reminding us how precious we are to Him (Daniel 10:19) and reminds us of our worth with encouragement.
Things aren’t always going to be easy. And prayers aren’t always answered immediately, but they are heard. We can find encouragement and strength through the ways He reminds us that He is listening. This might be through words from an entrusted friend or family member, scripture, circumstances changing, or even a comforting nudge in your heart.
So, I didn’t get the answer I wanted. And I’m still restlessly waiting for many more answers, but I can remember how God is constantly reminding me like Daniel that I am heard. He gives me encouragement from friends. Loving words from my parents. And He continues to bless me in many other ways.
Sis, if you’re discouraged today and feel unheard. Remember, God is listening and your prayers are HEARD. Answers are coming. Maybe not in the way you wanted or expected, but they will come in the BEST way. I pray that like Daniel, God gives you something to remind you that He hears you!
