This morning I dove into Hebrews & read about spiritual growth, or as my Bible worded it - spiritual immaturity.
“You have been believers for so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize right from wrong.” Hebrews 5:12-14
We are called to TEACH, yet often times we aren’t even able to understand or apply things to our own lives. Often, our spiritual understanding is weak, leaving us as inexperienced. Who are we to teach others when we aren’t teaching ourselves?
Harsh? Yes, but crucial to understand. We have to allow our spiritual understanding to GROW. We have to go beyond living off of milk & make room for the ability to digest solid foods.
In order to grow we must train ourselves, we must indulge our hearts in His word. We must learn discernment.
Let me ask you this: can you tell the difference between correct use of scripture and a mistaken one?
Hit. Me. Hard. Because, if I’m honest, there are times I can’t. & I recognize this being because I’m not exercising my spiritual understanding.
This needs to be a daily practice. And when we are training ourselves here, we see a shift in our everyday actions.
Spiritual growth is CRUCIAL. Don’t let your faith get comfortable. Grow your understanding so you may be used outside of your comfort zone.
