This morning I started a little devotional on my phone called “Where are you, God?”
I felt that this was fitting since most of 2018 I struggled with recognizing Him within certain areas of my life.
This devotion prompted me to write the words “where are you, God?” on top of a piece of paper, set a timer for ten minutes & ask the Holy Spirit to speak to my heart. Then, write & reflect about what I heard.
I’m not going to lie, the first few minutes were a little rough. I was calling out to Him, but hearing nothing in return. The next few minutes, though, I noticed a shift. God needed me to recognize something. He needed me to see that my position had shifted over the last year. So now the question wasn’t where’s God, but where was I? Was I fully showing up for God? Was I wholeheartedly seeking Him? Or, was I just merely calling out expecting to see or hear from Him in some way? You see, I think this is a question a lot of us need to be asking ourselves. We go through positive times and never once question where God is. Half of the time, we might not even acknowledge Him in those moments because things feel GOOD, but the second things shift in a negative direction, we just sit & cry out to God, expecting that He show up. Y’all we’ve gotta show up. Cause guess what, He sure does. He’s there. There is NO question. The distance we feel from Him is from the gap we caused when we stopped pursuing Him. Jeremiah 29:13 says “if you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.” We have to seek Him with every piece of our hearts. During the last few minutes of my time reflecting I thanked God for always recognizing my position & meeting me there. I thanked Him for showing up, promising Him that I would work on reciprocating this action. So today ask yourself “where is God?”, take note of His position & then ask yourself where you are. Take ten minutes to reflect on how you can better position your heart towards Him today. MKG
